No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools
NEWS: At least two Alpha Plus member schools have been nominated by the state for the federal Blue Ribbon Schools honor: FLOWER MOUND and CARNEGIE! We hope they will join previous honorees still working with Alpha Plus: Central High (BRS 2012-13) and Bishop (BRS 2010-11). Keep up the great work!
Dove Science Academy Elementary School, which has used Alpha Plus interim assessments for several years, has received an FY2014-15 Title I Academic Achievement Award for closing the gap between subgroups of students in Mathematics. Keep up the great work, Dove teachers and students! http://www.dsaokc.org/default.asp
The Oklahoma State Department of Education also announced five other schools that are receiving Title I Academic Achievement Awards for 2014-15. [News release below.] These schools serve as models of best practices for schools identified for school improvement under regulations of the U.S. Department of Education.
The purpose of the Title I Academic Achievement Award is to recognize and honor Title I elementary and secondary schools that exceed Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs) for two or more consecutive years, or significantly close the achievement gap between groups of students.
CONGRATULATIONS to two Alpha Plus Schools -- Carnegie Elementary School in Caddo County and Flower Mound Elementary School in Comanche County -- for being selected as National Blue Ribbon Schools. These join previous honorees that continue using Alpha Plus tools: Central High (BRS 2012-13) and Bishop (BRS 2010-11).
Both schools qualified for the "Exemplary High Performing Schools" award because they have excelled in state test scores while at least 40% of students are economically disadvantaged. They are among 285 public and 50 private schools that will be honored in ceremonies on Nov. 9-10 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.

New Oklahoma Academic Standards for Math and Reading are here http://sde.ok.gov/sde/newstandards. Required by August 1, 2016, the “annual high-quality statewide student assessments for English Language Arts and Mathematics” must be developed by the 2017-18 school year.
In the meantime, Oklahoma’s PASS-aligned test blueprints will be unchanged “until the new assessments are implemented.” The current Test Item Specifications and Test Blueprints are in your Alpha Plus Teacher Binders and online at http://sde.ok.gov/sde/documents/2013-09-05/blue-prints-plds-item-specs.
